A wake up call has been issued to Nigerians by respected cleric, Matthew Kukah, bishop of Catholic diocese of Sokoto. According to the man of God, ethnicity and religion have become liabilities in Nigeria.

He also alleged that Nigerians evoke God to witness corruption and “outright larceny”.

Kukah disclosed this while speaking at the convocation of Achievers University, Owo in Ondo state, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

According to him, the rest of the world is making progress without evoking God.

He said despite that in Nigeria, we have over 90 per cent Christians and Muslims, religion has become an incubus, a burden and source of dreadful violence.

Kukah said while Nigerian leaders are kneeling before pastors and imams seeking blessings, the rest of the world is moving on.

He said those moving on are drawing inspiration from sweat, brains and brawn even without evoking God.

Meanwhile, recall that Legit.ng had reported that Kukah said the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, is fighting to keep the throne because of his blunt remarks.

Legit.ng also reported that Kukah also lamented over the state of educational facilities in states; stating that rather than spending money on education, governors spend money on pilgrimages and building religious centre.

Kukah asserted that Northern Nigeria is a big culprit in a lot of the things that are wrong with the country.
