– The novels considered are English language novels written over 300 years

A panel of leading writers, curators and critics come together to compile and choose from the array of novels 100 genre-busting English language novels that have had an impact on their lives on the demand of BBC.

The books selected were the ones written over the last 300 years and the list covers children’s classics to popular page-turners.

For easier classification, the books were organised into themes showing the ways books help shape and influence people’s thinking

Three Nigerian novelists’ books made the list with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun and Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart falling in the same category, identity while Ben Okri’s Astonishing the Gods came under the life, death and other worlds.
